LOCATION

The “Ettore Majorana” Foundation and International Centre for Scientific Culture (EMFCSC) is named after an outstanding Italian physicist born in 1906 who had been appointed full professor of
Theoretical Physics at the University of Naples at the age of 30.
He was much respected and admired by the scientific community including, among others, by the Nobel Prize winners Enrico Fermi, Emilo Segrè, Niels Bohr, Werner Heisenberg etc. and whose disappearance during a boat trip from Palermo to Naples on 27 March 1938 is still shrouded in mystery.

The «Ettore Majorana» Centre is located in the old pre-mediaeval city of Erice where four restored monasteries (one of which was the residence of the Viceroy of Sicily during the XIV and XV centuries) provide an appropriate setting for high intellectual endeavor.
